5 Best Books…Made Into a Movie [That I Watched & Read]

5bestbooks2-300x216

Every week, a different topic is suggested by Cassandra @IndieReaderHouston and participants list what they think are the 5 best book for that topic.

———- 0000 ———-

I always enjoy books more than movies. No matter how much control over the screenplay the author has, there is always something important that is changed or omitted in a movie. As always my list has a twist. Today I am not picking the best 5 as the tittle of the meme shows, but the last 5 movies I watched and read the original book (that I can remember) and I will let you know which part I thought it was missing or changed.

The last 5 book adaptations I watched (that I remember) are:

1. Diary of the Wimpy Kid - I watched the movie, but only read a couple of pages with my daughter. According to her (9yrs old) the movie presents the book well and she thinks they covered all the important points. For me, it was a great movie to watch with the family.

2. The Last Song – I guess I am an ending person. I was waiting for the cheesy, romantic last scene in the book and cannot believe the way the movie ended. As well, I was disappointed with the final turtle scene and how it developed. Plus, the piano story lost its context.

3. Dear John – the movie was pretty good, but I was expecting a little bit more. The relationship/courtship part was reduced and the end was not the same.

4. The Time Traveler’s Wife – I loved the movie and the book as well. Just like before the end killed it for me; I was disappointed.

5. The DaVinci Code – this is the first and only movie I have watched at the theater on my own. I was really exited about it. It was pretty accurate to the book and since it has been so long, I cannot remember what I missed clearly. I think it was something in relation to their escape from the Manor.

POST-A-FIVE: TV Programs

Believe it or not, I still have time to watch TV. Most of the time, I write my posts when watching a program. I like the noise around when I am writing for short amounts of time. Sometimes I waste too much time getting ready to write in silence; it is less productive and allows time for my brain to think about five hundred other things non-related to the project I am trying to work on.

Every writer has their tricks and I am definitely one of them. I normally write around the same time frames. Therefore, I watch most of the same programs. I do not remember using any information from there to get inspired, but I may try for a different post. Who knows, I may get a writing job for them…lol. Back to reality, here are those programs that get me in the writing mood.

Top 5 Programs I watch when Writing:

1. Days of Our Lives – when I am most productive

2. The Nate Berkus Show - keeping the mojo after the soap opera

3. News- any channel; Spanish or English

4. RAW – extended writing time

5. House – not too often; I like to follow the story line

Do not get me wrong, I am good at multi-tasking, but when I am in the writing mood I can barely hear the TV. It turns into a background noise that fades away. I guess it is similar to the effect of writing with music on. It works to get you inspired and settled into a good working zone. If you have never tried it before, go ahead and let me know if it works for you.
